Two spine-chillers by M R James, the master of the English Ghost Story, performed in candlelight by Robert Lloyd Parry of Nunkie Theatre.

"Oh, Whistle, and I’ll Come to You, My Lad" – a tale of nocturnal horror on the Suffolk coast – is considered by many to be James’s masterpiece. It is beautifully complemented here by "The Ash Tree", a story of witchcraft and vengeance down the generations.

Robert Lloyd Parry was one of the first performers we welcomed to Trouble at Mill, and we're delighted to bring him back to Farsley. In 2015 he appeared as M R James in Mark Gatiss’s BBC documentary "M R James: Ghost Writer".

“Our host recounts James’s diabolical masterpieces with the perfect mix of humour, warmth, apprehension and profound unease. A most pleasing terror.” - THE SUNDAY TIMES
